Sowah, Men's Basketball Halts Golden Eagles Comeback Attempt

Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent may have had to wait to play St. Joseph's College-Long Island, but their mission to walk away with a victory remained the same. The rescheduled contest was a physical contest that saw the Dolphins walk away with a 90-84 victory. The win improved CMSV's record to 7-5 on the season (including 5-2 in conference play) while the Golden Eagles now stand at 2-9 with a 2-5 record against Skyline opponents.

The Dolphins had an impressive first 20 minutes of play, as they went into halftime with a 12-point lead. Senior guard Jose Maestre scored 13 of his 16 points in the first half, while his senior counterpart Matthew Sowah was an impressive four of five from the field. CMSV's defense was also stingy, as they caused eight turnovers while allowing the Golden Eagles to convert just 30% from beyond the arc.

The second half, however, was a different story. St. Joe's Long Island mounted an impressive comeback in the second half, as they made over half of their field goal attempts (54%) while cutting the Dolphins' lead to single digits. Meanwhile, the aforementioned Sowah did his best to hold off the opponents, as he scored 11 second half points, including going a perfect 2-2 from downtown. Standout Ammad Alkhulaidi secured his fourth double-double on the season (11 points, 11 rebounds) while Brian Brooks came off the bench and scored 12 points.

The Dolphins will continue to play within their conference, as the head to Maritime for their 13th game of the season on January 10.
