Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent entered Saturday's game riding high on a four-game winning streak but had the tall task of taking on Purchase College, who came to the Sharp Center sporting an impressive 8-3 record. Fortunately for the Dolphins, their strong play of late continued, as they went on to defeat the Panthers by the score of 68-53. CMSV has now improved to 9-5 regular season record with an impressive 7-2 mark against Skyline competition.
Despite entering halftime down, the Dolphins kept it close, as they trailed only by one at the buzzer. The starting foursome of
Ammad Alkhulaidi,
Andrew Curiel,
Matthew Sowah and
Makai Johnson were the team's most consistent contributors in the first 20 minutes, as they combined for 23 of 32 total points. Despite their strong start, the Panthers were equally as impressive as they shot 41% from the floor.
But in the second half, CMSV ramped up their efforts which resulted in the victory. Once again, Alkhulaidi impressed during the afternoon contest with 20 points and 10 rebounds, his fourth straight game with a double-double. Sowah finished with 11 points and eight rebounds while Johnson filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The win extrends the Dolphins' streak to five in a row, including winning six of their last seven. They'll return to action on Tuesday when they take on Sarah Lawrence College in the Sharp Center at 8:00 PM.
