NORTHAMPTON, MA - The CMSV Women's Volleyball team returned to action on Friday night, taking on non-conference foe Gallaudet University in the opening game of the Smith College Invitational. The Mount lost a five setter to the Bison 3-2 (11-25, 11-25, 25-23, 25-20, 13-15), falling to 0-2 on the young 2017 season.
Tara Maloney once again led the Dolphins attack, as the sophomore tallied a team-high in kills and digs.
Dez Brown chipped in on the attack with nine kills on 19 swings, while freshman
Sayde McDermott added seven kills.
The Dolphins struggled to find their rhythm in the first two sets, as the team hit for a negative percentage. Things turned around in the third set for the Mount as they out-hit Gallaudet.
In the fourth set, the team had their most efficient set, hitting .250% and combining for 15 kills in the set.
In the deciding set, the teams went back and forth, trading points until Gallaudet won five straight points to go ahead 12-8 but strong serving by
Chrissy Sewell and great attack play from
Patsy Sewell and Maloney led the Dolphins to take the lead 13-12. Gallaudet would win the next three points to close out the match 15-13, wrapping things up with a kill by Brynn Schmidt.
The Dolphins play close out play Saturday with two games.
