Dolphins Go 1-3 At Union/Sage Crosstown Tournament

CMSV defeated Sage Friday for their lone win

ALBANY, NY - The CMSV Women's Volleyball team returned to action this weekend, traveling to the Capital Region, to take part in the two-day Union/Sage Crosstown Tournament. The Dolphins played Sage and Skidmore on Friday evening, then played College of New Rochelle and Union on Saturday.

The Mount went 1-1 on Friday, downing their former Skyline Conference rival Sage in a five set thriller.

Tara Maloney paced the team with a game-high 25 kills, while also chipping in with 11 digs. Nicole Henderson had a career-high nine services aces while also adding in 33 assists, nine kills, and 12 digs. Dez Brown had 14 kills, while Patsy Sewell had a solid all around game with two aces, 18 assists and a team-high 15 digs.

After taking the first set 25-18, Sage came back to win the next two sets, taking a 2-1 advantage. The Mount would take the 4th set 25-21, then the 5th by a score of 15-12.

In the deciding set, the Dolphins had their best hitting set of the day, combining for a .353% on 17 swings. Henderson started the team off on a good note, getting two of her nine aces on the first two possessions of the set.

In the final match on Friday, Skidmore took advantage of sloppy Dolphins play, as the team barely had a positive hitting percentage, coming in a .012 on 84 swings over the three set sweep.

Brown led the attack with seven kills, while Maloney added six.

On Saturday, the Dolphins dropped both matches, taking only one set against hosts Union College.

In the match against CNR, the Dolphins were able to have a strong attack, tallying 32 kills on 101 swings. Brown was once again the lead of the attack, going for nine kills in defeat. Carolyn Hayes tied for a game-high with four total blocks, while Alexandra Rio led with 11 digs.

In the final match of the day for the Mount, the Dolphins took one set off of Union, but couldn't keep the hosts attack at bay, with Union smashing 57 kills on 117 swings.

The Dolphins attack was led by Maloney who went for 12 kills and Henderson who added nine.
