Women's Soccer Shut-Out vs. Rutgers-Newark

3 2nd Half goals doom Dolphins

NEWARK, NJ - The CMSV women's soccer team opened up the 2017 season on Friday night, traveling to New Jersey to take on the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders. The home side won a 5-0 decision thanks to two goals apiece by Juliana Ceballos and Nicole Gomez.

The Scarlet Raiders scored first in the 20' when Ceballos took a cross and fired a shot toward the net, which deflected off Dolphins keeper Elizabeth Martin to make the score 1-0.

The final 25' of the first half went scoreless as both teams tested the opposing keepers into two saves each.

The home side put two goals in within the first five minutes of action in the second half, as Sabrina Solorzano and Nicole Gomez scored in the 48' & 50' respectively.

The Dolphins were able to test the Scarlet Raiders keeper with seven shots, forcing starting keeper Diana Carvalho into making two saves. Nicole Weber led the way with two shots, both of which were on target.

The Dolphins return to action on September 9 when they will travel to Pennsylvania and face Dickinson College.
