RIVERDALE, NY - The 2017 Women's Soccer season will get underway Friday, September 1
st as the CMSV Dolphins will travel to New Jersey to take on a non-conference foe, Rutgers-Newark at 5pm. This marks the fourth meeting between the two schools, as they have played during the 2010, 2014, and 2015 seasons. The Dolphins, led by 11 seniors, are seeking to earn their first win against the Scarlet Raiders in program history.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach
Katie Gebhard, the Dolphins have had nearly two weeks of training and one scrimmage in preparation for the start of the 2017 season.
15 of the 19 players on the team are returning players, including 11 seniors, led by 2016 Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Year
Julia McGowan, First Team All-Conference member
Kelly Gibison and Second Team All-Conference member
Laurén Tate .
McGowan led the Skyline Conference in points and goals in 2016 while being named Player of the Week twice during the season. McGowan netted a single season record 21 goals for the Dolphins, which tied her for 9th most in all of NCAA Division III. The Pearl River, NY native tallied two hat tricks on the season.
Gibison was the only women's soccer student-athlete that tallied double-digit assists and goals during the regular season, as she tied for the conference lead with 11 assists while finishing tied for 3rd with 10 goals.
Tate was the anchor for the 2nd stingiest defense in the Skyline Conference, which allowed only 27 goals during the year.
The Dolphins first home game of the season is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13
th vs. FDU-Florham at 4:30pm.
