BROOKLYN, NY - The CMSV Baseball team returned to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Coney Island and the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, to take on non-conference foe NYU in two 7 inning doubleheaders.
The Violets won both games of the twin-bill, dominating 16-2 in game one, then using a 5-run 1st inning to cruise to a 7-3 victory. The two losses wrap up the 2017 campaign for the Dolphins with an 8-31 record, a one win improvement from the 2016 season.
Game One Notes
The Dolphins broke up Violets starting pitcher Cam Serapilio-Frank's no-hit bid in the 5th inning with a single by
Steven Hansen.
The Dolphins two runs, came in the 7th inning without the team recording a hit. NYU pitchers issued five walks and the Dolphins grounded into two fielders choices allowing the runs to score.
Game Two Notes
After going 7 innings in game one with one hit, the Mount wasted no time getting on the board in game two.
Kyle Tamburri came to the plate with one out and the bases loaded and the freshman laced a double to the left field corner, chasing
Siddeeq Ali and Hansen home to give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, CMSV starter
Tyler Reyes allowed the first four batters to reach base. Then following a liner off his foot, the freshman southpaw allowed five total runs in the inning.
In the 3rd,
Brandon Pasquale smacked a single to center field, which allowed Tamburri to score to cut the lead to 5-3.
NYU answered with a run of their onw in the bottom of the 3rd, then added one more in the 5th.
