Men's Volleyball Takes 5 Setter Over Sage

Cucullu leads with kills, aces and blocks

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Volleyball team returned to action on Wednesday night, hosting Sage College in a Skyline Conference matchup. Playing their first match in over a week, the Dolphins were able to shake off the rust to win a thrilling five setter over the Gators 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 15-11).

Senior Tyler Cucullu led all players with a game-high 29 kills, four aces, five total blocks, seven digs and three assists. Neven Skoblar was active at the front of the net, coming up with a team-high six total blocks. Setter Logan Dickover had his sixth game of over 40 assists, as the junior tallied 48 over the five sets.

In the Mount's two set losses, they hit -.065% and .152%, two of their lowest for a set this season.

The intensity picked up in the deciding fifth set. The teams traded kills to open the set, then back-to-back errors by the Gators put the Dolphins ahead 3-1. Sage fought back to get within one at 6-5 but a booming kill by Cucullu seemed to change momentum putting his side ahead 7-5.

The Gators didn't go away however, as the visitors scored the next four points to take a 9-7 lead. Cucullu and Scott Sawyer smashed back-to-back kills to tie the match at 9-9.

With the score 11-11, the Dolphins lone senior took over, accounting for his teams final four points. His back-to-back solo blocks put the Dolphins on the verge of victory, then Cucullu smashed home a kill to secure the 15-11 set victory.
