Softball Splits At Day 3 In Myrtle Beach

CMSV downed Alfred State, then lost to Lycoming

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The CMSV Softball team returned to the field on Wednesday afternoon, taking in part of day 2 at the 2017 Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Dolphins took on Alfred State first, winning, 9-1, then took on Lycoming but fell 3-0.

The Dolphins now sit at 3-3 on the season, having earned splits over their first three days in South Carolina.

In game one, the Dolphins offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first inning, the game blew open on a two-run double by Kierstyn Bourdeau, which scored Katie Moos and Rachel Heizer. Rianna Laughridge followed Bourdeau's double with one of her own, scoring pinch-runner Carol Santo to make it 5-1 and end the afternoon for the Alfred State starting pitcher.

The Dolphins scored two more runs in the bottom of the second, both unearned to take an 8-1 lead, which proved to be more than enough for Mount starter Meagan Earley. Earley, making her second start of the trip, pitched five solid innings, scattering six hits, while only giving up one run, which came in the first inning. The freshman hurler struck out two batters as well.

In game two, Lycoming starting pitcher Hannah Boop, four-hit the Dolphins over seven innings, while striking out five batters.

The Dolphins defense committed two costly errors, in the 2nd and 3rd innings, which allowed three runs to score and wasted a 3-hitter by Mackenzie Heizer. M. Heizer was dealing, striking out 11 batters.
