Regina Sinks Bears With Buzzer Beater

Hickman and Curiel notch double doubles in season finale

BROOKLYN, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Brooklyn to take on Skyline Conference foe, St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in both teams season finale. The Dolphins, playing their third game in as many days, won on a Jesse Regina buzzer beater 70-69, to wrap up the 2016-17 season with an 8-17 record and 6-10 mark in conference play.

The Dolphins got the ball back with 9.6 seconds left, down two points and Regina drained a step-back three as time expired to give his team a victory.

Myron Hickman scored a game-high 20 points, while also pulling down 10 rebounds, recording his second double double of the season. Andrew Curiel tallied his team leading eighth double double of the season as the junior scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

In the first half, the Mount were in control for the majority of the half, pushing their lead to as much as six points on several different occasions.

Matthew Sowah drained a 3-pointer with 7:24 left in the first half to give CMSV a 26-20 lead but St. Joe's would go on a 10-4 run over the next two minutes to tie the game at 30 all with 5:01 to go.

The Dolphins would take a lead into halftime thanks to a 3-pointer by Trevor Johnson and layup by David Collins.

Sowah would connect on two free throws at the 6:38 mark of the second half to give CMSV a 59-48 lead, their largest of the game. The Bears would not go away though, as the home side would erase the lead and take a 67-65 lead with 47 seconds to go.

The Bears only connected on 2-of-4 from the free throw line in the final 20 seconds, leaving the door open for the Dolphins to attempt a game-winning or tying shot.

After Dimitri Sirakis missed the second free throw, Hickman drove the lane, then passed it out to Regina on the wing, who took one dribble, stepped back and buried the game winner as the buzzer sounded.
