Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - On a day that saw the College of Mount Saint Vincent women's basketball team travel to Long Island, the Dolphins were able to capture their first Skyline Conference victory of the season, as they went on to defeat the St. Joseph's College-Long Island Golden Eagles by the score of 67-61. The win puts CMSV over .500 in their overall record (2-1, 1-1) while the Golden Eagles dropped to 2-4 on the year.
The Dolphins were led by
Kelly Nola and
Kelly Oliver in the first half of play, as the duo combined for 17 points and six assists, helping their team secure a halftime lead of 34-30. Freshman and former Rookie of the Week
Aria Rheams made her mark over the first 20 minutes, as she had four points and three rebounds off the bench.
While the Dolphins continued to lead the Golden Eagles in the second half, they received contributions from other players. Senior
Kristen Merrell led all players with 15 points over the final 20 minutes of play, while also adding six rebounds and two assists. Freshman
Leah Pinili (six points) and Kailtin McGeown (four points, five rebounds) aided CMSV in their victory as well.
It was a well balanced even for the Dolphins on both ends of the floor. Nola finished the game with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal while Oliver impressed with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six steals, all the while playing every minute of the contest. Merrell paced her team with 20 points.
Mount Saint Vincent looks to capitalize on their latest win when they take on Yeshiva University (2-4, 1-1) on Sunday evening at 6 PM inside the Sharp Center.
