Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - It was the tale of two halves for the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Thursday night. After a dominant offensive outing over the first 20 minutes of play, the home team let the St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Bears back into the game, eventually losing the contest by the score of 71-66. The Dolphins drop to 1-3 on the season, including an 0-1 record in Skyline Conference play, while the Bears improved to an even .500 record (3-3, 2-1).
During the first half of play, it seemed as though the Dolphins couldn't miss a shot. Nine different players secured at least one basket, with Ammad Alkhulaidi (seven points), Jose Maestre (seven points), Matthew Sowah (six points), Vinny Tavella (six points) and Makai Johnson (six points) leading the charge. Despite getting out-rebounded by the Bears by six boards, CMSV converted on more than half of their field goal attempts (57%) while also knocking down nine of 11 from downtown, an effort good enough to give the team a 16-point lead by halftime.
But if the first was all Dolphins, the second was all Bears.
As St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn's offense heated up, Mount Saint Vincent's turned ice cold, as the Dolphins shot just 23% from the floor in the second half, including missing all 10 of their three-pointers. Dimitri Sirakis and Stephane Etheart were catalysts behind the Bears' offense, as they scored 24 of the team's 42 second half points.
Alkhulaidi paced all Dolphins with 14 points and eight boards while Raquis Harris filled the stat sheet (10 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block).
Mount Saint Vincent will have a quick turnaround, as they look to add a win to both their overall and Skyline Conference records in a Saturday night tilt against Yeshiva.
