St. Joseph's Brooklyn Narrowly Defeats Dolphins

Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - In the first Skyline Conference matchup of the season, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team dropped a nail biter to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn by the score of 64-61. The loss put the Dolphins' early season record at .500 (1-1) while the Bears improved to 3-2.

Over the first two quarters of play, the score was as close as the final tally. The Dolphins were led on offense by Kelly Nola, Kelly Oliver and Kristen Merrell, who scored seven, six and six points respectively, in the first 20 minutes. Their efforts resulted in a one-point deficit when both teams went into the locker room at halftime.

After a third quarter that saw the Dolphins take a 47-43 lead, the Bears turned the tide in the fourth. Victoria Porcasi and Kelly O'Donnell combined to score 23 second half points, which helped St. Joseph's go ahead with just over seven minutes to play and contain the edge until the final buzzer.

Nola filled out the stat sheet in a major way, as she finished Tuesday night's game with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and four steals. Oliver followed suit with her first double-double of the season (12 points, 10 rebounds) to go along with five assists. Freshman and former Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week Aria Rheams had nine points and 12 boards off the bench.

The Dolphins will look to get into the win column in Skyline Conference play when they travel to Patchogue to take on St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Thursday.
