Men's Hoops Splits NYU Tip-Off Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Riverdale, N.Y. - To kickoff the 2017-18 campaign, the College of Mount Saint Vincent traveled to New York University to partake in their yearly Tip-Off Tournament. Over the weekend of contests, the men's basketball team walked away with a .500 record, as they dropped their first game against NYU on Saturday and picked up a victory against Clark University one day later.

Despite a valiant effort, the Dolphins dropped the tightly contest effort by a mere three points, but it wasn't for a lack of production on either end of the court. Freshman Raquis Harris had a standout performance in his first ever collegiate game, as he posted a double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds) while chipping in four assists and one steal in a team-high 32 minutes played. Senior Ammad Alkhulaidi and junior Jason Barrera combined for 27 points while Matthew Sowah scored eight points off the bench.

On day two, the Dolphins rebounded nicely, as they were able to close out yet another close contest. While Alkhulaidi (17 points, seven rebounds, four assists) and Harris (12 points) helped the team to start the game, the bench played a vital role in the victory as well. Once again, Sowah provided a spark within the second unit as he scored 10 points while seniors Mike Mulligan (10 points, five rebounds) and Ryan Fraser (eight points) were also effective.

With the first two games in the books, the Dolphins will turn their attention to Trinity College, who they'll take on in Connecticut on November 28.
