Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - With the 2017-18 season now underway, the College of Mount Saint Vincent started it off in prime fashion. In Head Coach
Tiffany Smart's debut, her team rallied around her to pick up a 12-point win over York College by the score of 81-69.
The Dolphins - who entered the season ranked fourth in the Skyline Conference Preseason Poll - maintained a hard-fought lead, as they battled closely with the Cardinals on the court, which was reflective during the halftime score of 39-36 CMSV. By the time the second half rolled around, it was all Dolphins, as
Kristen Merrell (22 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists) helped lead her team to victory.
On top of Merrell's efforts, Coach Smart had contributions all over her depth chart. Junior
Kelly Oliver and senior
Kelly Nola finished second and third, respectively, in scoring with 17 and 14 points apiece. Freshmen
Aria Rheam and
Leah Pinili had an impact in their first collegiate contest, as Rheam secured a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Pinili had three points and three assists in 17 minutes.
With their first win in the books, the Dolphins will look to continue their positive momentum when they take on Skyline Conference foes St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn on November 28.
