Box Score 2 RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team picked up two key Skyline wins in a tri-match held at the Peter Jay Sharp Athletic and Recreation Center, on Sunday, October 8, 2017. CMSV defeated Mount Saint Mary College (the Knights) and the College at Old Westbury (the Panthers), both in straight sets. The Dolphins are now 5-0 in Skyline play and 12-7 overall.
In the match against the Knights (7-16, 1-3 Skyline), set scores were 25-18, 25-12, and 25-11. Sophomore outside hitter Tara Maloney led all players with 16 kills and added two serve aces with just as many digs. Freshman outside hitter Sayde McDermott slammed home eight kills, had just as many digs on defense, produced two blocks, and scored an ace. Senior outside hitter Maria Leineweber had seven kills, led the team with nine digs and three blocks, while producing two service aces.
Senior setter Nicole Henderson had a match-high 23 assists and scored an ace, while junior libero Lesley Peralta anchored the defense with seven digs. Freshman defensive specialist Alexandra Rio produced just as many digs, scored four service aces, and had an assist. Sophomore middle blocker Dez Brown had three kills with just as many blocks, while classmate Jenayla Nesbitt had two kills, four digs, and one block.
In the win against the Panthers (9-8, 2-3 Skyline), set scores were 25-10, 25-15, and 25-16. Maloney once again led the attack with 16 kills and had a solid match on defense with four digs and a block. Brown slammed home ten kills and added three blocks. McDermott had seven kills and two service aces, while Leineweber had five kills with two blocks and a service ace.Â
Henderson led all the players in assists with 32 helpers, while scoring five service aces, and slamming home a kill. Peralta anchored the defense with a match-high 11 digs and added an assist on offense. Nesbitt produced two digs, Rio recorded an ace with a dig, and junior setter Patsy Sewell slammed home a kill.
Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 for a Skyline match against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. First serve at the Hill Center is scheduled for 7Â p.m.
