Women's Soccer Dominates In First Round Victory

Riverdale, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Vincent Women's soccer team came ready to play in the Skyline Conference quarterfinals against St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn on Saturday, as they rolled over the Bears by the score of 8-0. 

The Dolphins were firing on all cylinders through out the contest on both ends of the field. Julia McGowan opened scoring for her team early in the first half, as she put one past the goal keeper only five minutes into the contest. CMSV's second goal came off a rocket from Nicole Weber nearly 27 minutes after McGowan's first tally. The Dolphins also cashed in on a penalty kick rebound goal by Kelly Gibison to end the half up three goals. 

The Dolphins did not slow down as they dominated the second half. The team scored four goals in 13 minutes to including two coming only 36 seconds apart. All four goals were scored by seniors, including two from Erin Dailey, one from McGowan and one from Alicia Forgione, They went on to add one more goal off the foot of Julia Legget and won the contest 8-0. The defense, led by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Tate, held strong in the shutout win. 

With the first round victory, the Women's Soccer team has now won seven games in a row and advances to the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Playoffs, where they will take on rival Farmingdale. The match will take place Wednesday night at Farmingdale.
