Men's Soccer Wins Via Shootout, Advances in Skyline Playoffs

Box Score

Riverdale, N.Y. - Mount Saint Vincent advanced in the Skyline Conference playoffs in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon, as they secured a quarterfinal victory over Purchase College, edging them by one in penalty kicks.

Neither team gave an inch as this contest was a defensive battle throughout. The Dolphins had fantastic defensive performances from senior Joseph Llamuca and freshmen defender Luciano Cirelli, who were stout on their end of the field.

After 120 minutes of play, it still was not enough to decide a winner.

Penalty kicks it was.

Both goal keepers set the tone early, as they both saved the first penalty kicks by the opposing team. Both CMSV and Purcahse went on to trade successful attempts, as Tim Guido answered the call for the Dolphins to tie it a one shot a piece. Padelis Astrinidis came up huge with his second save, which was followed by a goal by Cirelli to put his team up 2-1. Purchase immediately answered to tie it up at two apiece. The keepers then traded saves again, leaving Llamuca with a chance to win the game for the Dolphins. The senior answered the call and buried his chance to propel his team to the semi-finals.

The Men's Soccer team is back in action Wednesday night in the second round, as they travel to Patchogue, New York to take on St. Joseph's College - Long Island.
