Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - Mount Saint Vincent took full advantage of their final tune-up before the Skyline Conference playoffs as they were able to fight off the Maritime Privateers on the road by the score of 3-2.
The divisional matchup was tightly contested through all 90 minutes. And during the first 45 minutes, it was a defensive battle.
Both the Dolphins and Privateers controlled each others offenses, as the game went 43 minutes without a goal. But before the first half could conclude, CMSV struck first. Senior
Andrew Gomez connected with his team-high ninth goal of the season, giving his team a one goal advantage going into halftime.
If the first half was all about defense, the second half was a polar opposite.
Maritime struck early when play resumed, as the Privateers scored twice by the 50 minute mark. But they didn't hold the lead for long, as junior
Guy Horcasitas converted on an assist from
Luciano Cirelli to tie the game at two. Fast forward just nine minutes later, and Gomez, once again, put the ball past the goal keeper, putting the Dolphins up for good.
With the win, the Dolphins will have a favorable seed heading into the Skyline Conference postseason this weekend.
