Mount Improves To 5-9 On The Season

NEW YORK, NY - The CMSV Women's Volleyball team returned to their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, winning both matches at a Skyline Conference Tri-Match, hosted by Yeshiva University.

The Dolphins swept the host Maccabees 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-11) in the first game then the Mount dispatched, St. Joseph's-Long Island 3-1 (25-12, 17-25, 25-22, 26-24).

The Dolphins dominated from the start of the match, winning all team categories. CMSV took advantage of sloppy pasing by Yeshiva and were able to serve a total of 18 aces, a season-high. Chrissy Sewell led the team with five aces, while Lesley Peralta added in four.

The Mount out hit Yeshiva 0.328% to -.092% and tallied 27 kills compared to 15 for their opponents. Tara Maloney and Nicole Schweit led the team with six kills apiece.

Maloney led all players with 19 kills, while tieing for the team lead in digs along with P. Sewell with 14.

Holding a 2-1 lead in sets entering the fourth, the Dolphins worked hard to earn a 26-24 match clinching victory. Throughout much of the early and middle portion of the set, both teams traded points with strong attack play and great passing. The Mount seemed to take an advantage after winning three straight points to take a 21-19 lead. A Maloney kill gave the Dolphins set point with a 24-21 lead but back-to-back points by St. Joseph's led to a CMSV timeout. The Mount dropped the next point but Maloney would smash a kill to give her side a 25-24 lead, then the Dolphins would win the match on an attack error by the Golden Eagles.
