McGowan Nets Game-Winner, As Dolphins Down Sage 2-1

CMSV Nets Two Second Half Goals In Victory

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Women's Soccer team got back to their winning ways in game two of the double-header, earning a 2-1 victory over Skyline Conference rival Sage College. The victory ended the teams mini two game slide and improved their overall record to 4-3, with a 2-0 mark in Skyline play.

For the duration of the game, the Mount was the more aggressive team, as they attempted 23 shots, compared to just 11 for the visiting Gators. Despite the early first half pressure, the Gators struck first in the 22' minute as Giovanna Fichera headed home a pass from Jordyn Logan to beat Mount keeper Elizabeth Martin to make it 1-0.

The Dolphins had their chances in the fist half as well, 10 minutes prior to the Sage goal, Julia McGowan header attempt hit the upper left of the crossbar & post and bounced away from a dangerous area.

CMSV continued to press on in the second half and were finally able to break through in the 69', as Caroline Criscuola rebounded her own shot to slide it past Gators keeper Cassy Robatille to even the score at 1 apiece.

Less than two minutes later, McGowan would finally break through, heading in a Kelly Gibison pass from the right side, to beat Robatille and give the Mount a 2-1 lead. The goal was McGowan's team leading 7th on the season.

Martin played all 90:00 for the Mount and came up with eight total saves, six of which game in the second half, including two at point blank range prior to the Mount's opening goal.
