BRONXVILLE, NY - The CMSV Softball team returned to action Monday afternoon, hosting St. Joseph's College - Long Island, in a makeup game from earlier in the month with the game being played on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College.
The Dolphins took both games of the doubleheader, winning game one 2-0 and 11-7 in game two to improve their record to 10-12 overall and 7-3 in Skyline action.
CMSV 2 SJC-LI 0 - Game 1
Dolphins starting pitcher
Mackenzie Heizer went the distance, no-hitting the Eagles for 6+ innings before allowing a leadoff single in the top of the seventh. Heizer struck out eight batters on the day and lowered her ERA to 3.66 on the season.
CMSV broke through in the second inning, when
Kathryn Dalton led off the inning with a single to left field and would come around to score two batters when the Eagles infield could force a runner at second base.
In the third inning the Dolphins scored again on a
Kierstyn Bourdeau single to center scored M. Heizer to make the score 2-0.
M. Heizer would make those two runs stand up over the final four innings as the junior faced two batter over the minimum.
CMSV 11 SJC-LI 7 - Game 2
In game two the Dolphins offense broke out in a big way as the team scored 11 runs over the first three innings.
In the bottom of the first inning CMSV sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs, all with two outs. M. Heizer started it off the the Dolphins as she blasted a three-run homer to left field, later in the inning Guerra smacked a two-run double to make it 5-1. The Dolphins scored two unearned runs later in the inning on an error by the Eagles pitcher which allowed two runs to score and make the score 7-1.
In the second inning,
Rachel Heizer and Dalton both hit solo home runs to make the score 9-1 after three innings of play. In the third
Samantha Broo scored on an error and then
Danielle Maffei scored on a sac fly by R. Heizer to make the score 11-3 after three innings of play.
R. Heizer started for the Dolphins and pitched four innings, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits but still earned her third win of the season. M. Heizer came in to pitch the final three innings, shutting out the Eagles.
