RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV men's volleyball team hosted #11 Kean University on Wednesday afternoon. The Dolphins were downed in straight sets, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 to fall to 12-14 overall and 8-6 in Skyline play.
In the first set, both teams came out ready to play as they traded points early on. The Dolphins would tie the score at 6-6, after a bad set by the Cougars. After a
Sean O'Connor kill cut the lead to one at 8-7, the Cougars would rattle off six straight points to take a 14-7 lead. The tall and aggressive front line of the Cougars would prove to be to much for the Dolphins as Kean would close out the first set totaling 13 kills.
Kean would jump out to an early 6-1 lead in the second set but CMSV would continue to fight and take advantage of the sloppy passing by the Cougars and cut the lead down to two at 11-9. The Dolphins would pull to within one point several times over the next few minutes but were unable to string together points.
Kean would have their most effective set in the third hitting .500% with 14 kills, as they led the entire set.
Tyler Cucullu would serve an ace to tie the score at 10 but Kean would win four of the next five points to go ahead 14-11. The Cougars would win 14 of the next 19 points to take control and close out the Dolphins 25-18.
The Dolphins return to action Saturday April 2 when they will travel to Poughkeepsie to take on Vassar & Wells in a non-conference tri-match, starting at 12pm.
