RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV men's volleyball team won their third straight match Saturday afternoon sweeping Purchase College & St. Joseph's-Brooklyn to improve to 11-12 overall and 8-4 in Skyline Conference play.
CMSV 3 Purchase 0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-20)Early on in the first set, the Dolphins and Panthers went back and forth with Puchase getting to within one point at 9-8. CMSV took control of the match on the serve of
Tyler Cucullu who took over serving with the score 15-9 and by the time his turn was up, he had gotten four aces and his team a 21-9 lead.
In the second set both teams went on three point runs to start but the Dolphins put together a 7-0 at a critical time to take a 15-9 lead.. Cucullu and
Neven Skoblar would combine for two blocks and
Sean O'Connor would smash a kill to give the Dolphins a set win.
CMSV seemed to have the set in control when they went up 16-9 on
Augustine Ameruso's first kill of the season but Purchase would win six of the next seven points to make the score 17-15. The Dolphins would steady the ship and close our the set with a 25-20 victory.
Skoblar led all players with 14 kills and a .520 hitting percentage but Cucullu added nine kills as well as eight aces, half of the teams total for the match.
Logan Dickover tallied 30 assists, while
Jordan Steiger added seven digs.
CMSV 3 St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) The Dolphins controlled the first set from the beginning taking a 13-4 lead, on a four point run highlighted by kills from Skoblar,
Owen Smith and Steiger, who would smash tow more kills later in the set to secure the set win.
In the second set the Dolphins trailed early and often, getting behind by as much as five points, forcing a CMSV timeout. After the timeout the team responded wining four of the next five points to pull within one. They would eventually take the lead thanks to a Steiger ace. Cucullu and Skoblar would record kills down the stretch to secure another set win.
The Dolphins took control of the third set thanks to a six point run turning a 10-6 advantage into a 15-6 one. The strong attack would continue to have success as the Dolphins would close out the set and secure the match victory.
Cucullu had 13 kills, two aces and six digs, while Steiger and Skoblar added nine kills apiece.
The Dolphins return to action Tuesday when they will take on Ramapo College at 7pm.
