NEWBURGH, NY - The #3 seeded CMSV Women's Soccer team returned to action Wednesday afternoon, looking to advance to the Skyline Conference Championship for the first time in the program's history as they squared off against #2 seed Mount Saint Mary's College at Kaplan Field.
The Knights scored the only goal of the game, 30 minutes into play and held off the Dolphins to win 1-0 and advance to the Championship game.
The Dolphins finish the 2016 campaign with a 13-7 record, including a 7-2 mark in conference play.
CMSV was unable to find a rhythm and lacked possession for the duration of the game, as they were only able to attempt five shots all game, with one of them being on target.
MSMC broke through in the 31' when Maeve O'Sullivan was able to put home a loose ball in the six yard box. Dolphins keeper
Elizabeth Martin was able to punch the initial shot by Theresa Stinson away but the visitors were unable to clear the ball and O'Sullivan was able to get it through the traffic into the back of the net.
Julia McGowan attempted three shots, while
Joyce Pagliuca and
Kelly Gibison each attempted one, with Gibison's shot in the 28' of play being the only shot that tested Knights keeper Mary Riley.
The Knights will move on to face #1 seed Farmingdale State on Saturday with a berth for the NCAA Tournament on the line.
