Dolphins Take Season Opener Over Fisher Falcons

3 Players Score In Double Figures For CMSV

RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team opened up the 2016 season on Tuesday night, taking on non-conference foe, Fisher College, in a packed Peter Jay Sharp Center. Three Dolphins scored in double-figures to pace the team, as they won 66-54 over the Falcons to earn their first win of the season.

Myron Hickman led the team with 14 points in his first game as a Dolphin, while Ramiel Coleman added 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Mount. Ammad Alkhulaidi had a solid all-around game chipping in with 10 points, a game-high 18 rebounds, six assists and two blocks.

CMSV led for the majority of the game and took control early on thanks to a 10 point scoring binge by Hickman over the course of 1:30 seconds of play. The Dowling College transfer, went on a personal 10-2 run to turn a one point CMSV lead to an eight point lead.

The visitors chipped away at the lead and would pull to within three points with 6:47 left in the first half, but back-to-back three pointers by Trevor Johnson put the team up by nine a little over 30 seconds later.

The lead would grow to as much as 16 in the first half, thanks to Matthew Sowah, who converted an old-school three-point play with 4:56 left in the half.

The Dolphins shot 46% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc in the first half, while forcing eight turnovers.

In the second half the Dolphins came out and continued to have their way, pushing the lead to a game-high 19 points after Alkhulaidi tipped in a missed three-pointer to make the score 52-33.

Over the next 13 minutes the Dolphins lost their offensive rhythm and allowed the Falcons back into the game. The visitors would go on a 21-7 run to trim a 19 point deficit all the way down to five points with less than a minute to play. The Dolphins would convert 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to hold on for a 66-54 win.
