PATCHOGUE, NY - The CMSV Women's Volleyball season ended Tuesday night in the First Round of the 2016 Skyline Conference Women's Volleyball Championships against #3 seed St. Joseph's College-Long Island. The Golden Eagles swept the defending champs in straight sets, winning by the scores of 25-16, 25-16, 26-24.
The Mount finishes the 2016 campaign with a 11-19 record, the 11th time in the last 12 years, the program has won double-digit games in a season.
Freshman
Tara Maloney once again led the Dolphins in kills and digs, coming in with a game-high 21 kills and 12 digs. Maloney accounted for over two-thirds of the teams kills on the night.
The home side controlled the match from the start of the first set, as they jumped out to an 11-5 lead forcing the Dolphins into calling a timeout. CMSV struggled to find their rhythm as they managed only seven kills in the first set, while hitting a paltry .036%.
The Dolphins faired not much better in the second set, as they fell behind early once again. The team faired slightly better with their attack, as they tallied 11 kills while hitting .135%, but they were out done by the Golden Eagles who hit a .317% with 16 kills.
The third set was by far the most competitive as the set went back and forth throughout the early portion. The Dolphins never led in the set but they were tied twice.
SJC-LI seemed to take control of the set with a four point run forcing a CMSV timeout, but once play resumed the Dolphins chipped away and cut the lead to 18-16, they would tie the game twice in the final stretches but would ultimately be put away by back-to-back kills.
