Dolphins Split At Purchase Tri-Match

CMSV Will Wait To Learn Their Seed In the Upcoming Skyline Conference Women's Championships

PURCHASE, NY - The CMSV Women's Volleyball team wrapped up regular season play on Saturday evening, by splitting at a Skyline Conference tri-match, hosted by Purchase College.

The Dolphins dropped their first match of the evening to Farmingdale State 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25) but then rebounded by sweeping the host Panthers in straight sets by the score of 25-11, 25-11, 25-11.

The Dolphins wrap up regular season with an 11-18 record overall with a 7-4 mark in conference games. The Mount has clinched a playoff spot, but will await Sunday's results to determine what their seed will be.

Farmingdale St 3, CMSV 1 (23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25)

In the Dolphins opening match, they were unable to get a consistent attack going as Farmingdale State were aggressive at the net. The Rams totaled 20 blocks as a team, which stunted much of their opponents attack attempts.

Freshman Tara Maloney tallied a game-high 21 kills, while adding in one ace and 13 digs. Setter Nicole Henderson led all players with 32 assist, while Patsy Sewell added in a game-high four service aces.

The Dolphins lone set victory came in the second frame, where they out hit the Rams .188% to .133%, while striking 13 kills compared to 10 for Farmingdale St.

CMSV found themselves behind much of the set but rallied back to win. Trailing 18-12, head coach Carlos Aponte called a timeout to gather his team. After the timeout, the Mount won five straight points to make the score 18-17 but the Rams responded by getting a 23-20 advantage but Maloney but the team on her back smashing kills on four of the five next points to give the Dolphins a 25-23 lead.

CMSV 3, Purchase 0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-11)

Against the hosts, the Dolphins served brilliantly to earn their 11th win of the season. The team hit a season-high 22 aces, led by senior Shannon Walsh who had a career-high six aces.

Jacqui Johnston led all players with six kills, while Jenayla Nesbitt and Maloney each had four kills.

Strong service and poor attack play by Purchase led to the Dolphins to out hit their opponents .213% to -.118%.
