Mount Saint Vincent Falls To Widener, Rowan On Day One Of Profs Invitational

Maria Leineweber posted 13 kills in Friday's opener against Widener

Leineweber posts 23 kills, Henderson 55 assists over two matches

Glassboro, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team suffered a pair of non-conference losses on Friday on day one of the Profs Invitational hosted by Rowan. The Dolphins fell to Widener by scores of 19-25, 22-25, 20-25 and then to the host Profs by scores of 10-25, 26-24, 21-25, 23-25. Junior Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) led the offensive attack for the Mount with 23 kills over the two matches.
 
In Friday's opener, Leineweber put away a team-high 13 kills for the Dolphins and hit .296, committing five attack errors in 27 attempts. She added seven digs for the Mount against Widener.
 
Senior Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished the match against Widener with eight winners and recorded a pair of blocks and a dig. Classmate Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) rounded out the match with three winners and a team-high two service aces.
 
Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) handed out a team-high 26 assists in the opener and joined Daluz with three kills in the contest. Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) paced the squad with eight digs, with Jane Greer (Bronx, N.Y.) and Henderson each posting a block assist.
 
Widener was led by 10 kills from Nicole Dorman, who hit .308 in the match. Natalie Winn added eight winners in the contest and Janie Kalinock put away six kills. Sabrina Barbieri handed out a match-high 34 assists and produced six aces for Widener and Lauren Elliott lifted a match-high 16 digs.
 
Overall, Widener held the advantage in kills in the contest 40-31 and in service aces 9-4. Widener hit .242 in the match a team against a .163 effort for the Dolphins.
 
In the nightcap against Rowan, Mount Saint Vincent rebounded from a 1-0 deficit to put away 15 kills and hit .278 as a team in the second set to tie the match at one set apiece. Scozzari hit .571 in the second stanza for the Mount, putting away five kills in seven attempts. After Rowan took a 24-22 in the second frame, the Mount ripped off the final three points, keyed by a Scozzari kill to even the match.
 
Scozzari led the Dolphins with 11 kills against the Profs, with Leineweber producing 10 winners and six digs in Friday's second match. Daluz rounded out the Rowan match with eight kills and three digs, while Henderson put away seven winners and added nine digs. Henderson added 29 assists against Rowan and is averaging just under nine assists per set through three matches.
 
Sophomore Kristine Javier (Fair Lawn, N.J.) led the Dolphins with 10 digs against Rowan with Roman adding eight digs for the Mount. Senior Rachel Gabriel (Yonkers, N.Y.) paced the team with three service aces.
 
Rowan was led by 10 kills and a .368 attack percentage from Erica O'Hagan with Jess Quinlan adding seven winners. Mary-Grace Testa led the Profs with 20 assists, while Jennifer Vorel led all players with 16 digs. Maggie Catherina closed a strong match with six kills and five total blocks.
 
Rowan held the edge in kills on Friday 48-41 and in service aces 13-7. The Profs also held the advantage in total blocks 6-3 and points 67-51.
 
Following Friday's results, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 0-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will continue play at the Profs Invitational on Saturday with non-conference matches against Marymount (1:00 p.m.) and Bryn Mawr (3:00 p.m.).
