Dolphins Top CCNY, Swept By FDU-Florham

Ashleigh Scozzari reached double-figures in kills for the seventh straight match in Saturday's opener

Madison, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon, topping the City College of New York 25-5, 25-16, 25-14 before falling to the host FDU-Florham by scores of 20-25, 19-25, 14-25. Senior Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the offensive attack in the win with 13 kills.
 
The Dolphins picked up their third straight win against the Beavers by hitting a season-high .333 as a team. The Mount hit .500 in the opening stanza against CCNY and closed out the sweep with 13 kills and a .321 attack percentage in the third frame.
 
Mount Saint Vincent put the first set away early against CCNY, scoring the first 13 points of the set. The Mount was never tied with CCNY until the third set that featured four ties and a pair of lead changes before the Mount used a 4-0 run to break an 8-8 tie to take the lead for good in the frame.
 
Scozzari reached double-figures in kills for the seventh straight match, posting a match-high 13 winners while hitting an efficient .360. She closed the day with three total blocks for the Dolphins in the victory.
 
Junior Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) put away seven kills for Mount Saint Vincent and added six digs, while senior Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished with six winners and four digs.
 
Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) handed out 27 assists to lead the Dolphins, adding four kills and four digs. Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) recorded six service aces for the Mount, with Nichole Riehm (Irvington, N.Y.) posting five aces and three kills in the victory. Freshman Chrissy Sewell (Yorba Linda, Calif.) continued her steady play with 11 digs.
 
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent held a 36-13 advantage in kills and a 17-2 edge in service aces. Mount Saint Vincent also won the blocking battle against the Beavers, 4-1.
 
In the second match of the day, Mount Saint Vincent was forced into a -.140 attack percentage and recorded just 16 kills against FDU-Florham.
 
Scozzari led the team with six kills against the Devils, adding three more blocks for the Dolphins. Daluz closed the match with four winners to go along with a block. Henderson handed out 14 assists against FDU-Florham.
 
The Devils were led by a match-high 14 kills from Lauren Harris who joined Alex Mueller with 15 digs in the contest. Codi Inloes –Williams led all players with 17 assists for FDU-Florham.
 
Overall, the Devils held the advantage in kills 38-16 and service aces 4-0, while the Dolphins held the edge in total team blocks 5-4.
 
Following Saturday's split, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 3-7 overall. The Dolphins return to action at home on Thursday when they welcome USMMA-Kings Point to the Peter Jay Sharp Center. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
