Mount Saint Vincent Blanked By Old Westbury

McGowan records six shots, Martin makes two saves

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team was shutout for the second straight contest on Saturday, falling to Skyline Conference rival Old Westbury by a score of 1-0. Sophomore Julia McGowan (Pearl River, N.Y.) led all players in the game with six shots.
 
The two teams played a scoreless first half on Saturday, with the Mount outshooting Old Westbury 7-5 prior to the intermission. The Dolphins also held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks, but could not beat Old Westbury keeper Melissa Muller who made four saves in the opening stanza.
 
Old Westbury would convert the game winning goal in the 56th minute off a scramble in front following a restart. Dana Yool found the foot of Meliisa Outsen inside the box who scored for the fourth time in 2015 at 55:08 to give the Panthers the final 1-0 advantage.
 
Mount Saint Vincent posted eight more shots in the second half, but could not solve Muller who finished up the half with four more stops, including a save inside the box off the foot of Caroline Criscuola (North Merrick, N.Y.)  in the final minute.
 
Muller closed the game with eight saves in the game for Old Westbury in earning the shutout. Martin made both of her stops in the first half for the Dolphins.
 
The Dolphins rounded out play on Saturday with a 15-9 edge in shots overall and an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Mount Saint Vincent took nine of the 10 corner kicks in the game, while fouls in the match were called 9-8 against Old Westbury.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-4 overall on the season and to 0-1 in conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a home non-conference matchup with Rutgers-Newark on Monday. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
