Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team moved to 2-0 at home on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-1 non-conference win over Hunter. The Dolphins' offensive attack featured three different goal scorers, including
Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.) who scored his third goal of the season for the Mount.
After the two teams played a scoreless first half, Mount Saint Vincent broke through with the first goal of the game early in the second half to pull in front 1-0.
Jose Mendoza (Bristow, Va.) tucked his second goal of the season inside the right post off a failed clearing attempt at the 47:44 mark of the match to open the scoring in a busy second half.
The Dolphins got on the board again in the 68
th minute on a Hunter own goal that moved the Mount in front 2-0. The Hawks' defense knocked a crossing pass into its own net at 67:29 to give Mount Saint Vincent the eventual game winning goal.
Hunter sliced its deficit in half just under two minutes later when Pratik Gurung buried a deflected shot into the Mount Saint Vincent goal at 69:20 to bring the Hawks to within 2-1.
The Mount answered quickly with its third goal of the game when Jardines potted his third goal of the season in the 71
st minute.
Alex Scordo (Bloomingdale, N.J.) found Jardines' foot with a centering pass from the ring wing at 70:52 to move the Mount in front 3-1. Junior Victor Ramirez (Los Angeles, Calif.) added an insurance goal in the final seven minutes to close out the scoring in the game.
Mount Saint Vincent converted on four of its 11 shots in the second half and finished the game with a 19-13 edge in shots overall and a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks in the game were even at 4-4, while fouls went against the Dolphins 20-15.
Junior goalkeeper
David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked up the win in goal, making three saves for the Dolphins. Garrett Babbitt played a strong game in defeat for Hunter, stopping eight shots for the Hawks.
With Wednesday's win, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 4-2-1 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action at home on Saturday for a non-conference contest with Mitchell. Kick-off with the Mariners is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
