Sophomore leads Dolphins to first win of 2015 season

Riverdale, N.Y. – Led by three goals from sophomore Julia McGowan (Pearl River, N.Y.) and a pair of tallies from senior Victoria Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team broke into the win column with a convincing 7-0 triumph over SUNY Delhi. The victory gives head coach Nathan Rauscher his first career win as a collegiate head coach.
 
Mount Saint Vincent broke the game open early on Sunday with three goals inside the first 16 minutes of action. McGowan connected on her first of the game in the sixth minute and added her second of the game off a pass from Courtney LaTorre (Denville, N.J.) at the 10:08 mark of the match.
 
Following an own goal to push the Dolphins in front 3-0, sophomore Kelly Gibison (Waterford Works, N.J.) closed out the scoring in the first half after depositing a pass from Erica Lencsak (Hazlet, N.J.) into the back of the net in the 39th minute.
 
Mount Saint Vincent outshot Delhi 18-1 in the first half in building the commanding 4-0 lead. The Dolphins also dominated corner kicks before the break, taking all six in the opening 45 minutes of play.
 
Coming out of the break, Mount Saint Vincent moved its lead to 5-0 when McGowan completed her hat trick with her third goal of the game off an assist from classmate Lauren Tate (Toms River, N.J.) in the 52nd minute. The Mount rounded out the scoring in the game with back-to-back goals from Astorino in the 62nd and 77th minute.
 
McGowan moved into the team lead in goals and points following her production against the Broncos. Sophomore Alicia Forgione (Lawrenceville, N.J.) added a pair of assists in the game for Mount Saint Vincent, moving her into the team lead in helpers.
 
Sophomore Elizabeth Martin (Lawrenceville, N.J.) picked up her first win in goal on the season. She was not forced to make a save 60:25 of action, lowering her goals against average to 1.81 on the season. Laura Schools (East Northport, N.Y.) saw her first action in goal of the season, playing the final 29:35 of the game between the pipes.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held a 28-1 advantage in shots and a 16-0 edge in shots on goal. The Dolphins finished by taking all seven corner kicks in the game, with fouls going against the Mount in the tilt 8-5.
 
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 1-2 overall on the season. Next up for the Dolphins is a home date with Staten Island on September 12. Kick-off at the Athletic Field at Marillac is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
