Purchase, N.Y. – Led by 22 points each from sophomore
Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior
Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team completed the season sweep of Purchase on Saturday afternoon with an 89-67 road win.
The game featured three ties in the opening five minutes of Saturday, before the Mount opened a 12 point lead after a 14-2 run.
Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) broke a 6-6 tie with a three-point play and back-to-back three-point field goals from Carroll and
Allison Clarke (East Northport, N.Y.) gave the Dolphins a 20-8 lead with 12:24 left in the opening period.
Purchase would climb back to within five points on an Elizabeth Osowiecki three-pointer late in the first half, but the Mount scored the final six points of the period, including two conversions from Fraser, to carry a 39-28 lead into halftime.
Although the Mount shot just 38.1-percent in the first half, it made five more field goals than Purchase and two more triples to build the advantage. The Dolphins finished the half with a 14-2 edge in paint points and a 13-3 advantage in points off of turnovers.
Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Mount in the first 20 minutes with nine points and four assists.
The Mount came out of halftime and scored the first nine points of the second period to push its lead to 20 on a Carroll jumper with just under 18 minutes left in regulation time. The lead would balloon to a game-high 25 points twice in the final three minutes and the Dolphins never allowed the Panthers closer than 17 points over the last 14:43 of regulation.
The Dolphins shot better than 51-percent after halftime with Carroll and Fraser combining for 30 of the team's 50 points after the break. Fraser went 8-for-10 in the second half from the floor and Carroll went 5-for-8 overall, including a pair of three-point field goals.
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game shooting 44.6-percent overall and knocked down eight three point field goals. The Dolphins dominated the paint, scoring 36 points inside and totaled 17 points off of 22 Purchase turnovers.
Fraser rounded out the day 11-for-23 from the floor and recorded her team leading 12
th double-double, hauling in a game-high 19 rebounds. She finished off a strong game with three assists and a career-high six steals.
Carroll scored better than 20 points for the second straight game, going 8-for-18 from the floor, knocking down three triples in the game.
Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) was the third Mount Saint Vincent player in double-figures, scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Barone chipped in with nine points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals for the Dolphins.
Purchase was led by 25 points from Osowiecki and 20 points from Jeidar Cole. Kristine Viven hauled in 12 rebounds for the Panthers and joined Michelle Rupelli with six assists.
Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 15-5 overall and to 6-3 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a non-conference road game at the United State Merchant Marine Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
