Old Westbury, N.Y. – Sophomore
Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) made a career-high eight three-pointers and scored a career-best 28 points as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team got back into the win column with a 76-55 road win at Old Westbury on Thursday evening.
After allowing the first three points of the night, Mount Saint Vincent used a 13-3 run to take the lead for good in the game. Carroll hit a three-pointer in the run and
Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) canned a triple to cap the spurt and move the Dolphins in front 13-6 with 11:02 left in the opening period.
The Dolphins spread their lead to double-figures for the first time in the game on a
Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) triple to move out to a 26-16 lead and a Carroll three-pointer gave the Mount its largest lead of the half, at 30-19, on a three-point field goal with just under two minutes left before halftime.
Mount Saint Vincent took a 30-23 lead into the intermission after shooting 46.2-percent from three-point range. Carroll went 4-for-6 from three-point range before halftime and led all scorers at the break with 14 points.
After allowing the Panthers to pull to within six points early in the second half, Mount Saint Vincent broke the game open with a 16-3 run. Fraser and
Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) each scored four points in the run and Carroll capped the stretch with a triple that pushed the Mount in front 53-34 with just over 11 minutes left in regulation.
Mount Saint Vincent would allow Old Westbury to pull back to within 12 points in the later stages of the second half, before the Dolphins took their largest lead of the game on a Fraser lay-in that pushed the Mount to a 74-52 advantage with 1:48 remaining in the game.
The Dolphins shot 46.2-percent from three-point range in the second half and 48.6-percent overall. Carroll knocked in four more three-point field goals on her way to 14 second half points. Barone handed out eight assists after halftime and Fraser scored 10 points.
Carroll rounded out her career night 10-for-18 from the floor overall and 8-for-11 from three-point range, adding two rebounds and two steals to her game-high point total. Fraser finished out the game with a double-double, totaling 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. She added two assists, two steals and five blocked shots.
Barone closed with a double-double after scoring 11 points and handing out 10 assists. She hauled in eight rebounds and swiped a game-high four steals. Oliver finished a strong night with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Clarissa Gallagher finished with 17 points for Old Westbury and Crystal Barnes grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for Old Westbury.
Mount Saint Vincent shot 40.8-percent overall and 46.2-percent for the game from bonus distance. The Dolphins turned 19 Old Westbury turnovers into 23 points and outscored Old Westbury 23-13 on the fast break.
With Thursday's win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 14-5 overall and to 5-3 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Mount is a trip to league rival Purchase on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
