Mount Saint Vincent Sinks Maritime, Clinches Third Seed In Conference Tournament

Riverdale, N.Y. – Senior James Zuccaro (Gilbert, Ariz.) led four players in double-figures and freshman Mike Mulligan (Pearl River, N.Y.) scored a career-high 10 points as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team closed out the regular season with a 75-59 home win over Maritime on Thursday night. With the win, the Mount has earned the third seed in the conference tournament and will host sixth seeded Purchase on Tuesday night.
 
Freshman Ammad Alkhulaidi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) converted a layup that broke a 13-13 tie with 6:04 left in the first half to give the Mount the lead for good in the game. The bucket started a 24-8 run to close the half and send the Dolphins into the locker room up 37-21. Mount Saint Vincent went 10-for-13 from the floor over the run, including a 4-for-4 effort from behind the arc.
 
After a sluggish start to open the game, Mount Saint Vincent finished the first half shooting 37.5-percent from the floor overall, but 42.9-percent from behind the arc. Antonio Johnson (Fort Johnson, N.Y.) and Mulligan each hit a pair of triples before halftime with Alkhulaidi leading the Dolphins with nine points and 10 rebounds at the break.
 
Mulligan pushed the Mount Saint Vincent lead to 21 points with a layup just over a minute into the second half and a three-pointer from Johnson with 18:21 left in regulation gave the Dolphins a comfortable 47-23 advantage.
 
Following the Mulligan bucket, the Dolphins would keep Maritime down by at least 21 points until the final 90 seconds of regulation and built a game-high  33 point lead on an Alkhulaidi triple that gave the Dolphins a 63-30 lead with 12:48 remaining in the game.
 
The Dolphins continued their efficient shooting from behind the arc after halftime, converting on eight triples and shooting 44.4-percent from behind the arc. Zuccaro and Johnson each knocked down a pair from bonus distance, with Zuccaro leading the Mount with 10 second half points on 4-for-5 shooting overall.

Zuccaro finished the game 7-for-13 overall on his way to a team-high 17 points, adding five rebounds. Alkhulaidi and Johnson each contributed 14 points and combined for six three-pointers with Alkhulaidi leading the team with 12 rebounds and five assists.
 
Mulligan reached double-figures for the first time in his career on Thursday after going 4-for-7 overall and 2-for-3 from behind the arc. He joined Johnson and Andrew Curiel (Bronx, N.Y.) with five rebounds on the night.
 
Maritime was led by a game-high 24 points from T'Vaughn Gibson and received 14 points from Patrick MacDonald. Isaiah Hayes paced the team with nine rebounds and two blocked shots.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game shooting 43.8-percent from behind the arc and made at least 10 threes in a game for the sixth time this season.
 
Thursday win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 17-8 overall and 13-5 in league play heading into the conference tournament. The Dolphins will tussle with Purchase on Tuesday at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. Tip-off is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
