Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team closed out the conference and home schedule on Tuesday night with a 94-72 home win over Old Westbury. Senior
Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded her 16
th double-double of the season as the Mount recorded the most wins in a season since totaling 21 in 2007-08.
After the two teams traded baskets in the early going, the Dolphins jumped into the lead for good in the game on a
Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) three-point field goal that gave the Mount a 5-2 lead 1:08 into the contest.
Old Westbury would stay within nine points until the Mount pushed in front 24-13 on a
Kelly Nola (Staten Island, N.Y.) bucket with 11:22 left in the opening period. The Dolphins would go on to break the game open with the final 10 points of the period to take a 50-31 lead into halftime.
The Dolphins finished the half shooting 47.6-percent from the floor and connected on half of its eight three-point field goal attempts. Fraser led the Mount with 15 points and six rebounds, with Barone adding 11 points and
Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) chipping in with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting.
Mount Saint Vincent quickly moved in front by 24 points coming out of halftime on a Fraser lay-in and took its largest led of the game with just over nine minutes left in regulation when a Barone triple ballooned the Dolphins' lead to 81-54.
Fraser and Barone each scored 11 points after halftime for the Dolphins who posted an 18-6 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Mount shot 42.9-percent in the second half and had 11 players find the scoring column in the period.
Fraser finished the game 12-for-20 from the floor and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead all players in the game. She rounded out the night with a pair of blocks and a steal for the Dolphins.
Barone scored 22 points for the Mount on the strength of an 8-for-8 effort from the free-throw line and a 4-for-7 effort from behind the arc. She added four rebounds and six assists. Carey finished the night with 12 points and five assists, with
Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) chipping in with seven points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Mount Saint Vincent closed the game shooting 45.5-percent from the floor and 42.1-percent from three-point range, knocking down eight three-point field goals. The Dolphins outscored the Panthers by 20 in the paint and turned 29 Old Westbury into 33 points.
Tuesday's triumph pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 19-5 overall on the season and to 9-3 in league play. The Dolphins round out the regular season on Thursday with a road non-conference game at Yeshiva. The game will be played at the College of New Rochelle starting at 8:00 p.m.
