ASHLAND, VA - The CMSV Dolphins opened up their 2015-16 season on Friday night, taking on Ferrum College at the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Tournament. The Dolphins lost 55-53 to the Panthers.
Christina Barone led the Dolphins on the offensive end scoring a game-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
The Dolphins went into halftime trailing 24-14 and the Panthers would extend their lead to 19 just over four minutes into the 3rd quarter.
In the final quarter, the Dolphins began their comeback with just over three minutes left, when Barone would make two free throws to cut the lead to single digits.
The Dolphins would cut the lead to five points late in the game when
Alexandra Gundermann made 1-of-2 from the free throw line. With seven seconds to go, Barone would steal the ball and dish it to
Gabriella Melgar who nailed a three to cut the lead to two points with three seconds left, however the Panthers would inbound the ball and run out the clock to secure the win.
The Dolphins return to action Saturday afternoon, when they will take on tournament hosts Randolph-Macon College at 4pm.
