NEWBURGH, NY - The CMSV Women's Volleyball team took part in the Mount Saint Mary's Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon, taking on the MSMC Knights and the Old Westbury Panthers. The Dolphins took home victories in both matches winning 3-0 against the Panthers and the Knights, winning their 7th in a row and improving to 12-13 overall and 7-1 in Skyline Conference play.
CMSV vs Old Westbury (25-12, 25-13, 25-15)The Dolphins dominated the match from the start, scoring the first four points of the match, including two kills by senior
Ashleigh Scozzari. The Dolphins out hit the Panthers, talling 14 kills in the set with a hitting percentage of .400. The Dolphins took control late in the set on a 9-0 run to take a 22-9 lead.
The second set started off with the Dolphins taking control 8-1 with great team play. Scozzari and
Erika Moncada each had two kills with
Patsy Sewell chipping in with three of her team high five aces duing the run. The Panthers would answer back pulling to within five points at 13-8 but the Dolphins didn't crack as they continued their strong play to win the set 25-13.
In the third set, the teams went back and forth and with the score 11-9, the Dolphins used a 14-6 run to close out the set and claim a match sweep.
Scozzari led the team with 13 kills, while fellow senior
Zana Daluz chipped in with 11 kills of her own.
Nicole Henderson dished out a match-high 33 assists.
CMSV vs. MSMC (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) The Dolphins fell behind early in the frist set with the Knights jumping out to a 6-1 but the team would respond thanks to strong attacking play from Daluz and
Maria Leineweber to pull even at 14. After trading points for the next four posessions, the Dolphins attack would stay strong and propel the team to an 18-16 lead, that they would hold onto the rest of the set.
In the second set, the teams went back and forth early on but the Dolphins took an early 9-6 lead thanks to back-to-back kills by Leineweber. The Knights responed to tie the score at 9 but the Dolphins would take control thanks to a five point run to take an 18-14 lead and Scozzari clinched the victory with two straight kills.
Scozzari once again led the attack with 14 kills with Leineweber chipping in with 10 kills. Henderson once again had a great game dishing out 32 assists.
The Dolphins return to action Wednesday October 28th when they travel to New Jersey to tak on Montclair State in a non-conference matchup.
