Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team closed out play at the Vassar Invitational on Saturday with a pair of 3-0 setbacks. The Dolphins fell to MIT in Saturday's opener by scores of 9-25, 13-25 and 14-25 before falling to New Paltz by scores of 12-25, 9-25 and 14-25.

Mount Saint Vincent found itself down early in the first set to the Engineers, falling behind 4-0 and then 13-3 following a nine point MIT run. The Dolphins would run of three straight points to get to within 4-3, but would not score consecutive points again in the set until a six point run late in the frame cut their deficit to 24-9.

The Dolphins would take their first lead of the match early in the second set following a three point spurt keyed by two
Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) kills that pushed the Mount in front 3-2. The Mount would hold leads of 4-3, 5-4 and 6-5 before a seven point run from the Engineers gave them the lead for good in the set.

Mount Saint Vincent would stay close again in the early going of the third set, but saw MIT string together six straight points to break a 4-4 tie. The Engineers would push the lead to 16-6 on a Mount Saint Vincent attack error and would not allow the Dolphins closer than seven points the rest of the way.

MIT hit .203 as a unit in the match and had 11 players with at least one kill. Rachel Parus led the team with seven winners with Angie Boggust putting away five kills. Nicole Gagnier led all players with 21 assists in the contest with Lisette Tellez lifting 16 digs and Jennie Glerum recording eight service aces.

Mount Saint Vincent was paced by four kills each from
Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Henderson and received a pair of winners from
Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.). Henderson rounded out the match with eight assists, while
Kristine Javier (Fair Lawn, N.J.) led the team with nine digs.

Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent hit -.063 as a team and saw MIT hold a 29-15 advantage in kills. The Engineers also held a convincing 18-2 advantage in service aces and 5-1 edge in total team blocks.

Mount Saint Vincent closed out play in the two day event by hitting -.134 against New Paltz. The Dolphins never led in the match until a 6-0 spurt in the third set pushed them ahead of the Hawks by a score of 9-5.
Nichole Riehm (Irvington, N.Y.) and Scozzari posted kills in the run and the Mount took advantage of three New Paltz attack errors. The Hawks answered with the next six points to take an 11-9 lead and closed the match with the final eight points to secure the sweep.

Scozzari rounded out the final match of the event with half of the team's 12 kills with Riehm adding three winners for the Dolphins. Henderson finished off the day with nine assists and seven digs with
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) lifting six digs.

New Paltz showed 12 players with at least one kill in the match and was led by six winners each from Chantal Ramhorst and Katy Braddon. Maddie Zwickl handed out 17 assists to lead all players in the match with Katy Herbst lifting eight digs.

New Paltz finished the contest hitting an efficient .351 as a team and posted a 34-12 edge in kills. The Hawks recorded 13 service aces in the match, while total team blocks in the tilt were even at three apiece.

Saturday's results drop Mount Saint Vincent to 0-4 on the young season. The Dolphins will return to action on September 12 when they take part in the Roadrunner Invitational hosted by Ramapo. The Dolphins will tussle with Ithaca at 5:00 p.m. and then the host Ramapo at 7:00 p.m.
