Yonkers, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team stopped a two game skid on Wednesday night with an impressive 2-0 non-conference win over visiting Bard. Freshman Jaime Salazar (Long Beach, Calif.) scored the game winner and classmate Dennis Reyes (Waldwick, N.J.) netted his 11th goal of the season.
 
Mount Saint Vincent carried the play from the outset on Wednesday, but could not find the back of the net until the 72nd minute. The Dolphins held a 12-1 advantage in shots at halftime and took three of the four corner kicks in the opening half, but could not solve Bard keeper Daniel Gagne who made four saves in the half.
 
After Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.) nearly scored off the second half kick-off, Mount Saint Vincent finally broke through at the 71:12 mark of the contest. Salazar curled a free kick in from the right wing for the eventual game winner. Both of Salazar's goals in 2014 have come off of free kicks, with Wednesday's giving him his first career deciding tally.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would go on to add an insurance goal in the 89th minute when Reyes tucked a shot inside the left post to finish off a pass from Jardines. Reyes has now scored in six straight games for the Mount and paces the team with 11 markers and 24 points.
 
Sophomore David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked up his first shutout of the season and the ninth shutout of his career on Wednesday. He stopped five shots in the game as he lowered his goals against average to 2.57 for the season. Gagne played a strong game in net for Bard, stopping nine shots on the night.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent finished with a 21-9 advantage in overall shots and an 11-5 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks in the contest were 5-3 in favor of the Mount, while fouls were whistled 13-12 against the Dolphins.

Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent back to within a game of the .500 mark at 4-5 overall. The Dolphins return to league play and the Athletic Field at Marillac on Saturday afternoon when they play host to conference newcomer Sarah Lawrence. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
