Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team was upended by non-conference foe John Jay on Monday afternoon by a score of 4-3. Sophomore Pablo Tellez (El Monte, Calif.) scored his first goal of the season and freshman Dennis Reyes (Waldwick,, N.J.) tallied for the 10th time in 2014.
 
Mount Saint Vincent fell behind by a goal in the early going on Monday after Ricardo Llanos scored off a pass from Justin Osorio at the 4:59 mark of the contest. The John Jay lead would double in the 23rd minute when Graysen Carlson scored his first of two goals in the game for the 2-0 lead.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would cut its deficit in half in the 34th minute when Tellez found the back of the net for the first time this season. He received a pass from Joseph Llamuca (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and tucked a shot inside the left post. The assist marked the first career point for Llamuca.
 
The Dolphins would stay within a goal until John Jay scored two quick goals in the second half to move in front 4-1. Korede Griffith got the third goal for the Bloodhounds at 60:55 before Carlson connected for his second goal of the game at 63:24 to take the three goal advantage.
 
The Dolphins would attempt to mount a comeback when Andrew Gomez (Sun City, Calif.) potted his fourth goal of the season in the 67th minute to being Mount Saint Vincent back to within 4-2. He collected a loose ball off a scramble in the box and buried a shot from the top of the box.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would get to within a goal with just under three minutes left in the game when Reyes scored his team leading 10th goal of the season. He took a pass down the left wing from Gomez to tighten the deficit to a goal. The marker was the final attempt at the goal for the Dolphins in the game.
 
The goal from Reyes gives him 22 points on the season, which marks the eighth best single season in program history. Reyes also has a goal in each of the last five games for Mount Saint Vincent. With three points on Monday, Gomez now has nine points in his last three games.
 
Freshman Eduardo Arce (Chula Vista, Calif.) made his second career start in goal and made one save in the first half. Sophomore David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) came on to play the second half, making one save. Daniel Hoyte earned the win for John Jay with six saves.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game with a 19-15 edge in overall shots and a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Dolphins took five of the eight corner kicks in the contest and fouls in the tilt went against John Jay 13-7.
 
With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 3-5 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Bard. Kick-off with the Raptors is set for 7:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y.
