Dolphins Erase Three Goal Deficit, Top Yeshiva In Overtime

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team erased a three goal deficit in the final 25 minutes of regulation and freshman Andrew Gomez (Sun City, Calif.) completed a hat trick in overtime as the Dolphins rallied for a 4-3 overtime win over Yeshiva on Wednesday afternoon. Gomez scored the first three goals of his career in the game.
 
For the sixth time this season, Mount Saint Vincent allowed the first goal of the game as Itamar Ben David converted a penalty kick for Yeshiva in the 20th minute for the early 1-0 lead. Aaron Braun doubled the Maccabee advantage at the 31:31 mark to send the visitors to a 2-0 halftime advantage.
 
Coming out of halftime, Yeshiva put the Mount down by three goals when Braun converted his second goal of the game in the 64th minute.
 
Mount Saint Vincent's comeback started at the 65:52 mark when Gomez got the Dolphins on the board with his first career goal. He worked his way through the Yeshiva back line and found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-1.
 
Just 13 seconds later, Dennis Reyes (Waldwick, N.J.) brought Mount Saint Vincent to within a goal at 66:05. He collected a loose ball of the restart following the Gomez marker and was able to work around the Yeshiva goalkeeper and score to an open goal.
 
Playing a man down for the entire second half, Mount Saint Vincent knotted the score with just over seven minutes left in regulation when Gomez buried a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.
 
After rebounding to get even at three goals apiece, Mount Saint Vincent completed the comeback with 1:31 left in the first overtime period when Gomez netted his third goal of the game. He took a pass down the left wing from Pablo Tellez (El Monte, Calif.) and tucked a shot inside the near post to give the Dolphins their first three conference points of the season.

Gomez finished the game with seven shots and recorded the third hat trick of the season for the Mount. He joins Reyes and Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.) with three goal games on the season. Reyes scored his team leading seventh goal of the season in the game, while Tellez picked up his first point of the year after helping on the game winning tally.
 
After allowing the first three goals of the game, sophomore David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned the win in goal after making four saves in the game. Maor Feinstein made eight stops in the game for Yeshiva.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game with a 23-11 advantage in shots and a 12-8 edge in shots on goal. The Dolphins took all five corner kicks in the game, while fouls were whistled 22-17 against the visitors.
 
Wednesday's win evens Mount Saint Vincent's overall record at 3-3 and moves it to 1-0 in conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a home date with Maritime on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
