Mount Saint Vincent Drops Seventh Straight To Open Season

New Rochelle, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team dropped its seventh straight match to open the season with a 13-25, 10-25, 14-25 road non-conference loss at New Rochelle. Junior Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the way for the Mount with six kills and three total blocks.
 
The Dolphins got off to a good start on Tuesday, pulling in front 9-6 following  on a kill from Scozzari in the early portion of the set. New Rochelle answered the Mount Saint Vincent rally with a 19-4 surge to close the set. After back-to-back points to move the Mount in front 8-5, the Dolphins would not post consecutive points again in the frame.
 
New Rochelle led wire-to-wire in the second set after hitting an efficient .421 as a team. The Blue Angels used a 5-0 run to open the middle set and closed the frame with 13 of the final 17 points to move in front 2-0 in the match.
 
The Dolphins and Blue Angels would split the first 10 points of the third stanza on Tuesday, before New Rochelle used an 8-1 run to take a 21-10 lead. New Rochelle totaled 15 kills in the final set to earn the straight set victory.
 
Scozzari led the Dolphins with six kills in the match and added seven digs. Scozzari rounded out a strong all-around night with three total blocks, including two solos.
 
Junior Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished the night with five kills and three digs with Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) adding three winners. Freshman Nicole Henderson (Berfenfield, N.J.) handed out 14 assists for the Dolphins and led the team with nine digs.
 
New Rochelle was led by a match-high 11 kills and a .417 hitting percentage from Meghan King. Indigo Flowers led all players with 12 digs with Melanie Lopez Soto handing out 17 assists. King and Lopez Soto each led the team with four service aces each.
 
New Rochelle finished the match with a 33-18 advantage in kills and a 15-1 edge in service aces. Mount Saint Vincent took the battle at the net with a 4-0 advantage in total team blocks.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-7 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to get into the win column when they open their home schedule on Friday evening against Cooper Union. Match time at the Peter Jay Sharp Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
