Mount Saint Vincent Dominates St. Joseph’s-L.I. On Senior Day

Montague nets 14 points in final regular season home game

Box Score
Riverdale, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent senior guard Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 14 points and was one of two players to reach double-figures as the Dolphins toppled St. Joseph's-L.I. Saturday afternoon by a score of 76-58 on Senior Day.

After Danielle Hamlin gave the Golden Eagles their only lead of the game with a three-pointer to move them in front 6-5, Montague quickly erased the deficit with a conversion to give the Mount the lead back for good in the game.

The Montague bucket started a 12-0 run for the Dolphins that was capped off by a Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) bucket to get the Mount in front 17-6. The Dolphins held the Golden Eagles without a field goal for better than four minutes and had five different players score, led by four points from Montague.

Mount Saint Vincent would allow St. Joseph's to climb back to within seven points twice over the final 12:07 of the half, but used a 20-10 spurt covering just over eight minutes to take a 37-20 lead on a Montague layup with 3:58 left in the period. The Dolphins would match their largest lead of the half on a Daniela Arias (Woodside, N.Y.) with 1:36 left in the half before taking a 40-27 lead into the intermission.

The Dolphins shot just over 42-percent from the floor in the first half and outscored St. Joseph's 20-8 in the paint and 14-4 on the fast break. Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Montague paced the Mount in the half with 10 points each.

Mount Saint Vincent expanded its lead to 20 points at the 15:12 mark of the second half on a three-point play from Fraser and pushed it to a game-high 27 points twice in the final 12:33 of regulation. After Fraser got the lead to 20 points the closest St. Joseph's could get was the final 18 point deficit on a Jackie Zizzo three-pointer with 11 seconds left in the game.

Mount Saint Vincent shot an even 40-percent from the floor in the game, but did not make a three-point field goal and went 20-for-30 from the free-throw line. The Dolphins finished the game with a convincing 38-12 advantage in paint points and totaled 35 points off of Golden Eagle turnovers.

Fraser rounded out the game with 21 points and 12 rebounds on the way to her 14th straight double-double and her 18th overall on the season. She added three blocked shots and matched her career-high with six assists.

Montague went 7-for-11 from the floor for the Dolphins and led all players with seven assists. Fellow senior Desiree Rosa (Dumont, N.J.) led all players in the game and matched her career-high with five steals with Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) adding seven points and eight rebounds.

Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 17-6 overall and gives it the most wins in a season since posting 18 during the 2009-10 season. At 9-3 in league play, the Dolphins will be back in action again on February 21 when they travel to Sage. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
