Jamaica, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent closed out a five game road swing to open the season on Monday with a 73-58 non-conference win at York. Senior Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with 21 points, while sophomore Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) handed out 10 assists as the Mount won its third straight contest.
 
York jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead on Monday night and took its largest lead of the game, at 14-8, on a Stayce Muirhead conversion with 11:15 left to play in the first half.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would use an 11-0 run to take its first lead of the game, pulling in front 19-14 on a Kelly Nola (Staten Island, N.Y.) bucket with just under nine minutes to play in the opening half. Junior Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) sparked the run with five points for the Dolphins.
 
The Dolphins would not surrender the lead it gained the rest of the night and took a half-high eight point lead twice in the final 5:02 of the first stanza. The Cardinals would climb to within four on two occasions late in the first half, but a Carey basket with 1:26 left in the period sent the Dolphins into halftime with a 35-29 advantage.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the first half shooting 36.1-percent from the floor with Carey leading the scoring with 10 points. She closed the half 3-for-8 from the field and knocked in one of the team's two three-pointers before halftime. Fraser hauled down 12 rebounds in the first half and Barone handed out five assists.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would spread its lead to double-figures early in the second half on a Fraser free-throw with 18:53 left in regulation before the Cardinals scored the next eight points to pull to within 39-27 on a Samantha Bond jumper with three minutes into the second half.
 
After cutting the lead to two points, York would manage just three points over the next nearly seven minutes, allowing Mount Saint Vincent to build its lead back to  10 points on a pair of Fraser free-throws with 11:32 left.
 
The Dolphins allowed York no closer than eight points the rest of the contest and grabbed its largest lead of the night, the final 73-58 advantage, on a pair of Barone conversions from the free-throw line in the final 10 seconds.
 
Barone finished the game with a season-high 10 assists and with her second double-double of the season after netting 15 points. She went 9-for-12 from the free-throw line, adding six rebounds and five steals.
 
Fraser rounded out the game 8-for-12 from the floor on her way to a game-high 21 points. She added 18 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Carey finished the game with 10 points and five rebounds with Alexandra Gundermann (Tuxedo, N.Y.) chipping in with eight points off the bench.
 
York got all of its scoring from its five starters, led by 18 points from Bond. She added a team-high three assists and three steals in the game. Muirhead closed the night with 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
Mount Saint Vincent closed the game shooting 37.3-percent from the floor overall and struggled from behind the arc, going 4-for-20 and from the free-throw line, misfiring on 10 attempts. The Dolphins dominated in the paint on Monday, 36-14, and scored 27 points off of 23 York turnovers.
 
Monday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 4-1 overall on the season. The Dolphins will open the home schedule on Thursday evening when they play host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Tip-off with the Lady Bears is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
