Mount Saint Vincent Overwhelms Medgar Evers

Clarke leads Dolphins with career-high 18 points

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team won its second straight game on Sunday afternoon with a dominating 93-21 non-conference win at Medgar Evers. Sophomore Allison Clarke (East Northport, N.Y.) led four Dolphins in double-figures with a career-high 18 points.
 
Mount Saint Vincent never trailed in the game and scored the first 20 points of the contest. Medgar Evers did not get on the board until a Shakeada Whit three-pointer with 11:22 left before halftime. The Cougars would not get another basket until the 2:07 mark of the half, as the Dolphins scored 26 of the final 31 points of the half.
 
The Dolphins would convert the first five points of the second half on layups from Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) and a free-throw from Clarke to open a 51-8 lead with just over 18 minutes to play in regulation. The Dolphins lead would balloon to a game-high 70 points in the final two minutes when sophomore Gabriella Melgar (Branford, Conn.) converted a layup to push the Mount in front 91-21.
 
Clarke finished the game 7-for-9 from the floor on her way to the career-high point total, knocking down a pair of three-pointers. She added seven rebounds and a pair of steals. Melgar also totaled a career-high on Sunday, finishing with 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go along with six assists.
 
Junior Alexandra Gundermann (Tuxedo, N.Y.) closed out the game with 13 points for the Mount and hauled in four rebounds. Freshman Kelly Nola (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the quartet in double-figures with a career-high 10 points to go along with five rebounds. She matched the team-high with six assists and swiped four of the team's 18 steals in the game.
 
Junior Morgan Dewberry (San Diego, Calif.) matched the team-high with seven rebounds and added three steals. Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) led the starters on Sunday with eight points and handed out three assists.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game going 41-for-80 from the floor and knocked in six three-pointers. The Dolphins forced 31 turnovers on Sunday and converted those into 50 points. The Mount also held a 54-10 advantage in points in the paint.
 
Sunday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 3-1 overall on season. The Dolphins will round out a five game road swing to open the season on December 1 when they travel to York. Tip-off with the Cardinals is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
