Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team snapped a four match losing streak with a pair of conference wins on Sunday, downing Yeshiva 25-6, 25-10, 25-4 and then toppling Maritime 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-10, 15-7. Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) put away 18 kills in the win over the Privateers.
Mount Saint Vincent eased to a straight set victory over Yeshiva in the first match of the day, hitting better than .300 in a match for just the third time this season. The Dolphins held the Maccabees to only five kills in the match and a -.167 hitting percentage.
Sophomore
Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) led Mount Saint Vincent in the win with 14 kills and a .684 hitting percentage. She added four aces and a dig in the victory. Scozzari also had an efficient contests after totaling 12 kills and hitting .550 in 20 attempts. She picked up 10 digs in the win and totaled a career-high eight service aces.
Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) closed the match with Yeshiva with 21 assists and four aces, while
Jennifer Roman added six digs.
Leineweber and Scozzari combined for 26 of the team's 33 kills in the match as the Dolphins held a convincing 33-5 edge in the category. The Dolphins posted 20 service aces in the contest, without allowing an ace, and picked up all three total team blocks in the victory.
Mount Saint Vincent was forced to battle back from a 2-1 deficit in the second match of the day against Maritime and did so with convincing wins in the final two sets. The Mount totaled 15 of their 37 kills in the final two frames and forced Maritime into 13 attack errors, while allowing only six kills.
In the fourth set, Mount Saint Vincent forced Maritime into a -.227 hitting percentage, while putting away nine kills and three aces to even the match. In the deciding set, the Dolphins put away six kills on their way to their fifth league win of the season.
Scozzari had a second strong match and reached double-figures in kills for the ninth straight match with 18 winners and a .310 hitting percentage. She added 11 digs, four service aces and five total blocks. Leineweber collected 11 kills for the Dolphins to go along with three digs and two aces.
Roman equaled the match-high with 19 digs for the Dolphins with
Kristine Javier (Fair Lawn, N.J.) lifting 12 digs.
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) rounded out a strong all-around match with four kills and three total blocks. Henderson rounded out the day with a career-high 31 assists and added nine digs.
The Dolphins finished the match with a slim 37-31 advantage in kills and a 15-14 advantage in service aces. The Mount also edged the Privateers in total team blocks 8-7.
Saturday's results move Mount Saint Vincent to 12-14 overall on the season and to 5-2 in league play. The Dolphins will close out the regular season next Saturday when they travel to Old Westbury to take on the Panthers and Mount Saint Mary.
