Dolphins Drop Non-Conference Matches To Hunter, Misericordia

Jennifer Roman totaled 19 digs and six aces in two matches on Saturday

Scozzari totals 26 kills over seven sets

New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team fell twice on Saturday, dropping a 18-25, 13-25, 22-25 decision to Hunter and a 15-25, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25 contest to Misericordia. Junior Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) paced the Mount with a total of 26 kills over the two matches for the Dolphins.
 
In Saturday's opener, the Dolphins hit .000 and totaled more errors than kills in two of the three sets played. Scozzari led the Dolphins with 12 of the team's 22 kills and hit .250 in the contest for the Mount. She added six digs and a block against the Hawks.
 
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) posted a team-high 10 digs for Mount Saint Vincent and joined Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) and Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) with two service aces in the match. Leineweber finished the match with five kills and three blocks, while Henderson handed out 16 assists and lifted eight digs.
 
Karolina Gajda paced Hunter with 10 kills and hit .318 to go along with three aces and five digs. Julia Connelly put away nine kills and Kristine Ciurcina handed out a match-high 24 assists. Angelica Mae Aquino closed a solid match with eight digs, six blocks and five kills.
 
For the match, Hunter finished with a 25-22 edge in kills, a 10-6 advantage in service aces and a 9-4 edge in total team blocks.
 
After dropping the opening set to MIsericordia on Saturday, the Mount rebounded to hit .207 in the second set, committing just two attack errors, to post its only set win of the day. Scozzari totaled five kills and hit .556 in the set to get the Dolphins even at a set apiece.
 
The Dolphins would total 11 miscues over the final two sets, while allowing 26 Misericordia kills. Megan Stack totaled eight kills over the final two frames to lead the Cougars.
 
Scozzari reached double-figures in kills for the seventh straight match and picked up her seventh double-double of the season with 14 kills and 17 digs. She hit .324 in the match for the Dolphins and added five total blocks.
 
Leineweber put away eight kills for the Dolphins and lifted six digs, while Roman added nine digs and four service aces. Henderson matched her career-high with 26 assists and added nine digs and a pair of total blocks.
 
Stack led the Cougars with a match-high 18 kills and lifted 20 digs, joining Shelby Brochetti with the match-high in digs. Brochetti added 11 kills, while Nicole Tagery handed out 36 assists and lifted 13 digs.
 
Overall, the Cougars held a 51-31 advantage in kills and a slim 12-10 advantage in service aces. The Dolphins won the blocking battle in the tilt 6-2.
 
Following Saturday's results, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 10-14 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be right back on the court Sunday when they play host to league rivals Yeshiva and Maritime. Matches at the Peter Jay Sharp Center are set to get underway at 11:00 a.m.
