Troy, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team had its four match winning streak stopped on Saturday with a 13-25, 23-25, 21-25 loss to Sage and a 25-12, 12-25, 16-25, 25-23, 13-15 setback to St. Joseph's-L.I. Junior
Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) put away 31 kills over the two matches, including 20 against St. Joseph's.
In Saturday's opener, Mount Saint Vincent fell to conference front runner Sage after hitting .053 as a team. Scozzari reached double-figures in kills with 11 and hit .348 to lead the Dolphins. She closed out a strong all-around match with seven digs and a block.
Junior
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) recorded three winners against the Gators and
Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) added 13 assists and five digs.
Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) and
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) lifted five digs apiece, with Roman leading the team with three service aces.
Sage was led by Helen Putirment who totaled 13 kills and hit .462 in 26 attempts. Rachel Liebig paced all players with 26 assists in the match and Siena Wilder led all players with 12 digs. Mickey Mango and Rachel Martin each recorded two total blocks for the Gators in the win.
Overall in the match, Sage held a 31-20 advantage in kills on its way to hitting .218 as a team. The Dolphins surrendered 12 service aces to the Gators, but held a 6-4 edge in total team blocks, led by two from
Ana Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.).
In the five set heartbreaker to the Golden Eagles, Scozzari led all players with a career-high 20 kills while hitting an efficient .378. It marked the fifth straight match she has reached double-figures in kills and raised her season hitting percentage to .224.
Daluz had another strong outing for the Dolphins after putting away seven kills and hitting .333. She chipped in with two aces, two digs and a pair of total blocks. Leineweber rounded out the day with three kills and two aces.
Freshman Kristine Jaiver (Fair Lawn, N.J.) posted a team-high eight digs in the match and Roman closed the day with five digs and an ace for Mount Saint Vincent.
St. Joseph's was led by 18 kills and five digs from Heather Ferchland who hit .394 in the contest. Julianne Tierney handed out a match-high 31 assists for the Golden Eagles and added a match-high 11 digs. Brianna Wolfe finished the match with six total blocks.
Overall, St. Joseph's held a 44-36 advantage in kills and a 9-5 edge in service aces. The Golden Eagles also closed the win with a 9.5-3.5 advantage in total team blocks.
Saturday's results drops Mount Saint Vincent to 10-12 overall on the season and to 3-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a pair of non-conference matches at Hunter on October 25. The Dolphins will tussle with the host Hawks at 9:00 a.m. and the Misericordia at 11:00 a.m.
